Womanizer

Trying to steal parts of women won’t make you whole, and it certainly won’t make you a man.

Burn me down with my lies of milk and honey,

ashes to ashes and dust to dust in the wind

carried to peaks of monuments built to myself.

Ships meant to sail into never,

the wind of unfamiliar respect at the back

of supposed notches tying me to the mast.

Don’t fight back. Nor run from this,

as we ran from me to the men we pretended to be.

Just tell my mother I love her.

“Just her, is why you are here.”

It’s true.

Boys on strings telling tall tales

of not being her past and better than her future.

Barbershop folklore. Locker room fables.

Echoes of offered nothingness in hollow halls,

filled with rooms of shortcomings,

disguised as remnants of trust and bodies.

Surrounded by women, alone is the boy

pretending to be a man.
